Services
Mexican Tile Pros provides an array of services for beautifying your home with Mexican saltillo Tile.
If your home or office has old worn or damaged tile we will come in and repair your floors with our experienced specialists who have been in the business for over 40 years.
We use only the finest products that will preserve your mexican tile and not damage it with harmful chemicals.
Our stripping and cleaning methods will remove all wear and stains and give us the original surface to begin cleaning and sealing the tile to bring it back to its original beautiful condition.
Once the tile has been graded, we pre-seal the tile.
Since the raw tiles are very porous, we spray the sealer on with special sprayers.
This gives the tiles an even coat without swirl marks or sponge/roller lines.
The number of coats and type of sealer used in this pre-seal process depend on the specific needs of your job.
The pre-seal process also has a lot to do with the final tone of the floor.
When the pre-seal process is completed, we box the tiles and they are ready to take to your job.
Our installation procedure is unique in that we take into account the fact that each tile is handmade and thus not exactly alike.
Many Mexican tile floors that need refinishing are in basically good condition, but may require a heavy duty cleaning to remove surface dirt that has bonded to the existing sealer.
It is important to remove this dirt before the tile is sealed, otherwise the dirt will be sealed into the floor.
Over time, this dirt will build up and the only way to remove it is to chemically strip the floor.
Our cleaning process involves applying our heavy duty cleaning solution, then scrubbing the floors with nylon hand scrubbers.
There are many times when stripping the existing sealer from the tile is required.
There may be dirt and stains sealed into the floor.
There may be multiple layers of oil based sealer which has darkened or "ambered" over the years.
The existing sealer might be peeling up in areas.
Or, efflorescence may be coming through the tile and staining the surface.
A successful strip of Mexican tile can happen only if all of the old sealer is removed.
Stripping must be done through a chemical process, with no sanding or abrasion.
Typically we install the tiles raw or with a penetrating sealer.
We then stain the floor using a penetrating stain of a color of your choice.
The most common colors range from a dark brown, giving a leathery look, to a white wash (also called pickling).
This type of stain does not lay on top of the tile but penetrates the pores for a durable color which resists scratches and wear.
We then seal the floor with, typically, four to five coats of sealer.
This protects the floor and enhances the color of the stained tile.
